Notoriously they don't allow sub-4K resolution displays to have HiDPI ("Retina") resolutions even though (for example) a 24" QHD 1440p display would greatly benefit from having an 1920x1080 HiDPI "Retina" mode. To fix this issue, some resort to buying a 4K HDMI dummy dongle to fool macOS into thinking that a 4K display is connected and then mirror the contents of this dummy display to their actual monitor in order to have HiDPI resolutions available. Others use the built in screens of their MacBooks to mirror to the external display. These approaches have obvious drawbacks and cannot solve all problems. To fix this problem, BetterDummy creates a virtual dummy display which you can then utilize as a mirror main. If you manage multiple computers you probably need BGInfo. It automatically displays relevant information about a Windows computer on the desktop's background, such as the computer name, IP address, service pack version, and more. You can edit any field as well as the font and background colors, and can place it in your startup folder so that it runs every boot, or even configure it to display as the background for the logon screen. Because BGInfo simply writes a new desktop bitmap and exits, you don't have to worry about it consuming system resources or interfering with other applications. Installation and Use By placing BGInfo in your Startup folder, you can ensure that the system information being displayed is up to date each time you boot. Launchy indexes the programs in your start menu and can launch your documents, project files, folders, and bookmarks with just a few keystrokes! Once Launchy has been started, it hides in the background. You bring it forward by holding the alt key (apple on Mac, and ctrl on Linux) and tapping the space key. You can then type in a few keys of the program you are searching for and hit enter once it has been found. You can also make Launchy dissappear again by hitting escape or alt+space. Logon Message Editor v1.1 Logon Message Editor v1.1 This is a simple "one trick pony" utility to allow one to easily change the logon message on a Windows system. The Windows logon message is the optional message displayed to users, for which they need to click "OK", to get to the actual login screen. (Often on corporate computers, it displays a legal notice about authorized use.) If the message is blank, then the logon message screen never appears. On large corporate systems, the IT guys would normally remotely control this message. On individual systems, say where you want to remind the kids at home or employees in a small business, you can also do this by manually editing the System Registry. However, that's not only a pain, but even if you are a System Registry editing pro, simple editing of the registry keys results in a message with no line formatting, and to get the message to be line formatted with carriage returns requires editing the registry entry at the binary level. Since I manage some Windows machines used for computer simulations by graduate students, as well as have a home workstation dedicated for work related use, I wrote a small editor to allow me to change this message, with line formatting, quickly and simple without having to deal with the Group Policy editor nor with manually binary editing the System Registry.
